Beaver Falls, PA – Gib McCracken (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver County Christian School)

converted a penalty kick to raise Geneva 3-2 over La Roche College in overtime (99:09) Wednesday night. The win moves Geneva’s overall record to 3-3-1.

The La Roche Redhawks offense found the back of Geneva’s net twice before the Golden Tornadoes could find their way onto the scoreboard. Down 2-0 in the 24th minute of the game, Geneva’s offense was sparked off of sophomore David McKinley’s (Bellville, OH/Clear Fork) goal in the 26th minute assisted by freshman Jake Broadwick (Mckees Rocks, PA/Robinson Twp. Christian School).

Less than a minute later, McCracken capitalized off an awarded free kick taken by Broadwick for the quick comeback, 2-2.

A scoreless second half forced the teams into extra time where McCracken converted a penalty kick for the 3-2 win.

“First of all, I want to thank La Roche for being extremely classy in honoring Nate Ferraco with t-shirts and some very nice words,” stated head coach Gary Dunda.

Both teams paused their pregame routines 12 minutes left in the allotted warmup time. La Roche and Geneva then met and mingled in the middle of the field forming a circle and prayed for the Ferraco family.

Dunda continued, “Tons of class from their program under David Day their head coach. That was something very special.”

Turning his attention to the recap the game Dunda explained, “Every time we play La Roche it is always a tight contest. It’s a match between two Pittsburgh schools. They are a good team, we are a good team. We were able to find the back of the net—late.

Gib McCracken’s two goals are pretty special from the center back position and Jake Broadwick brought in two assists which is also key for a freshman.”

“We have to keep getting better and hopefully we will.”

The Golden Tornadoes continue play on the road on Saturday, September 24 at 7 p.m. to face Muskingum University (OH).
