Beaver Falls, PA –David McKinley’s (Bellville, OH/Clear Fork) goal in the 92nd minute lifted Geneva 2-1 over the Allegheny College Gators on Wednesday (Sep. 28). The overtime thriller raises the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 5-3-1 before opening conference play on Saturday against Grove City.
“It is always exhilarating to win an overtime game,” said head coach Gary Dunda. “I am proud of the team in how we fought back; Allegheny is a good team.
Abel Carleton (Darlington, PA/Beaver County Christian School) tallied the first goal of the night in the 7th minute of the second half from Jonathan Shoaf’s throw.
19 minutes later the Gators equalized the game 1-1 forcing Geneva into its fourth overtime of the season.
McKinley’s golden goal at 92:06 was assisted by Jake Broadwick (Mckees Rocks, PA/Robinson Twp. Christian School).
“We had a good September and now we are ready for October,” said Dunda.
The Golden Tornadoes are set to defend their home pitch on Saturday, October 1 against Grove City College at 7 p.m. in Geneva’s first conference match of the season.
