Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at Fisher Invite

men team

New Wilmington, PA – On Friday, September 2 the Geneva men’s cross country team place third in its season opener at the Fisher Invite.

“Coming off a strong season last year, our returning runners set high goals for this season,” explain head coach Brian Yowler. “We have much work to do over the next several weeks but we are off to a good start. Being in the mix with Penn State Behrend and Washington & Jefferson is a great place for us at this point in the season.”

Leading the Golden Tornadoes was sophomore Josh Duffie (Canton, OH/Glenoak) who finished as the third fastest runner in the meet compiled of 62 racers with his time of 27:06.10.

“Josh Duffie picked up right where he left off last year,” said Yowler. “He led the race early, and finished a strong third. He's somewhat fearless in that he is not afraid to get out front early and push the pace. He's a tremendously gifted runner that has a big year ahead of him.”

Yowler contined,”I was really impressed with two of our freshmen; Brandon Racine and Micah Daigneault. Transitioning from the 5K in high school to the 8K in college can be a challenge for many guys but these two showed up with a big summer of training under their belts and are clearly ready to compete and contribute to this team. I couldn't be more pleased with their efforts in their very first collegiate 8K.”

Brandon Racine (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport) finished 19th overall, fourth for Geneva with a time of 28:41.62. Micah Daigneault’s (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) 29:10.32 finish placed him 19th overall, Geneva’s fifth fastest runner.

On Saturday, September 17 the Golden Tornadoes travel to Saint Vincent for a 9:30 a.m. start.
