Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva women’s soccer hosted the Marietta College Pioneers from Ohio in a non-conference match on Friday (Sep. 16). Marietta edged Geneva in a 2-1 decision. The loss lowers Geneva’s overall record to 3-2. The afternoon’s game ends a four game series at home for the Golden Tornadoes. On Wednesday, September 24 they will travel to Pittsburgh’s Highmark Stadium to face Point Park at 7 p.m.

The scoreboard remained untouched in the first 45 minutes of play. Seven minutes after the second half whistle, Pioneer Raeli Barnes scored an unassisted goal from the top of the box.

Senior defender Sara Foy (Rockwood, PA/Rockwood) created a play from the backline setting up sophomore midfielder Megan Schoeneweis (Moon, PA/Moon) for a shot to the lower right corner of the goal. The shot was knocked away from Marietta’s goalkeeper Rebecca Tenney.  Freshmen midfielder Jenna Marcisz (Marion, IN/King’s Academy) finished the backdoor opportunity scoring the 1-1 equalizer and her first collegiate goal.

The Pioneers found the back of Geneva’s net again in the 86th minute sealing the win for the visitors.
