New Wilmington, PA – Junior Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) lead Geneva’s women’s cross country team on Friday, September 2 at Westminster College’s Fisher Invite to a third place finish. Blosser’s time of 24:37.62 allowed her to place fifth overall in the women’s 6K.

“Madelyn Blosser worked really hard this summer and has firmly established herself as the leader and top runner on this team,” said head coach Brian Yowler. “She is a fearless competitor, and she ran a tremendously disciplined and gutsy race.  I couldn't be more proud of her and the example she sets for the freshmen.”

He continued, “Our 1-5 average time was 1:14 minute faster than last year's race! Even though five of our top eight runners this year are freshmen, they certainly didn't race like it. They are a really special class that is fun to watch and a joy to coach. Jennifer Simmons stepped up especially big for us in the number two spot.”

Jennifer Simmons (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) time of 25:37.49 landed her as the meet’s 15 place finisher out of 70 runners.

“With seven freshmen on the team, the goal for our first meet wasn't to focus so much on place or time, but more to work together to execute a specific race plan.  Overall, I was thrilled at our ability to accomplish our goals, while just getting our feet wet on the collegiate level.  We finished seventh at this meet last year so to finish a close third this year is certainly an exciting improvement and an added bonus.”

The Golden Tornadoes will be back in action on Saturday, September 17 competing in the Saint Vincent Invite.
