College continues to be ranked highly by U.S. News & World Report

US News and World Report Best Value 2017 Regional UniversitiesYou may consider it to be apples and oranges, or little pond and big pond, but no matter the comparison, the reality is this: Geneva’s participation in the U.S. News & World Report rankings has been moved to a new classification this year. Since Geneva has participated in the U.S. News & World Report rankings in 2014, the college has been part of the category of Regional Colleges. But as of the 2017 rankings, Geneva College has been reclassified to Regional Universities – which is a larger pool of larger institutions.

The reason for the reclassification is that Geneva has master’s level programs, which now moves it to a category of Master’s Colleges & Universities Medium Programs.  While the reclassification changed Geneva’s rankings, Geneva continues to be ranked highly in many respected areas of importance to students and their families.

Geneva remains a Best Value, but moves from #7 in Regional Colleges to an even more coveted position as #3 in Regional Universities.   In determining which colleges offer the best value, U.S. News & World Report accounts for academic quality and the net cost of attendance for students who received the average level of need-based financial aid.

The paradigm shift moves Geneva from a Top Regional College with an overall rank of #16 to a Top Regional University with an overall rank of #80.

Geneva still remains on the national list of Top 100 Best Undergraduate Engineering, which is ranked according to a peer assessment survey. To be considered, the highest engineering degree offered by a school must be a bachelor's or master's degree, and the engineering program must be accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

The change also means a move for Geneva from #11 on the Best for Vets for Regional Colleges to #44 in Best for Vets for Regional Universities.  For this recognition, a college or university must be certified for the GI Bill and must participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program or be a public school that charges in-state tuition to all out-of-state veterans.

U.S. News & World Report, which has been ranking colleges and universities for over 30 years, uses a methodology that measures how well a school educates its students. Indicators of excellence include freshman retention and graduation rates and the strength of a school's faculty.

Since its inaugural edition in 1983, U.S. News & World Report′s Best Colleges has been helping students and their parents make informed higher education decisions by providing news and advice about in-demand degree programs, finding more financial aid, how to be successful in college and other relevant topics. It is considered to be the gold standard in college rankings.

Geneva College is a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor.
