Bethany Upsets Geneva Volleyball in Metheny, 3-1

Beaver Falls, PA – The number one seed, Geneva College Golden Tornadoes were upset Wednesday (Oct. 19) night by the third seed, Bethany College Bison. The Bison handed the Golden Tornadoes a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21) loss, lowering the Geneva’s overall record to 18-7, 12-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

After dropping set one 25-20, Geneva took set two 25-22. Ahead 19-18, Geneva posted a three point-run started by Carolyn Kaufer’s (Albion, PA/Northwestern) kill. Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) continued with another kill followed by an ace serve by Abby Wenger (Lititz, PA/Warwick). Hughes sealed the set win with two more kills.

In the night cap, Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) led the offensive efforts with 15 kills, supported by Hughes with 11 kills.

Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) protected the net with four blocks.

 

Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) tallied 28 digs. Kaufer also earned double-digit digs at 14 and chipped in five kills. Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) recorded 13 digs.

In the setter position, Alaina Lytle (Warren, OH/Lakeview) totaled 44 assists.

On Friday, October 21, the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Juniata for a two-day tournament. Geneva is set to face Emory at 5 p.m. to open tournament play.
