Geneva Fairs Well at PAC Championships; Moyer Advances to Fourth Singles Finals

Erie, PA – Geneva showcased outstanding performances in day one the 2016 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Tennis Championship. The Golden Tornadoes tallied 21 points, currently fourth in team standings.

Second Doubles Sara Stoll (Norwalk, OH/Norwalk) and Grace Moyer (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) defeated Grove City 8-6 in the quarterfinals. Washington & Jefferson defeated the pair 8-1 in the semi-finals. Stoll and Moyer will compete for third place in day two of the tournament.

In singles play, Geneva’s first, third, fourth and fifth singles each won their first rounds. Rachael Letterman (Moon Township, PA/Moon) defeated Saint Vincent defending the First Singles PAC Champion in the quarterfinals in a 6-1, 6-4 decision. Stoll defeated third singles opponent from Saint Vincent, 6-2, 6-1. Letterman and Stoll both dropped their matches in the semis; Thomas More defeated Letterman 6-0, 6-1. Westminster defeated Stoll 6-2, 6-1.

Moyer, who had a perfect freshmen campaign, going 15-0 in singles play, defeated Bethany fourth singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0. She continued the latter part of the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Thomas More advancing into the fourth singles finals tomorrow.

Megan Shultz (Montrose, PA/Montrose), 2015 Fifth Singles PAC Champion, defeated fifth singles opponent from Saint Vincent 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals. Westminster edged Shultz in the semi-finals 6-4, 6-3. She will face W&J opponent for third place in day two of the tournament.
