Latrobe, PA- The Geneva College women’s cross country team took fourth overall in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship this Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Saint Vincent College.

Junior runner Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) finished first for Geneva and 13th overall with a time of 25:21 (6K). It was the highest finish by a Geneva woman since 2013. Blosser was awarded 2nd team All-PAC.

“Madelyn trained harder this summer than anybody on the team, and her hard work certainly paid off. From the start, she ran aggressively, which left her pretty empty toward the end. However, when the finish line is in sight, Madelyn always finds another gear,” said cross country coach Brian Yowler. “I could tell she was running on empty, but she still passed three runners in the last 200 meters to finish 14th.”

Junior Amy Lesser (Colorado Springs, CO/Homeschool), freshman Madelline Jameson (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon), junior Madison French (Hartstown, PA/Conneaut Area) and Claire Kennedy (Titusville, PA/Titusville) all ran faster than previous meets.

“We have a promising group of freshmen, but today, the veterans really stepped up to lead us,” said coach Yowler. “Our top 4 today were all upperclassmen.  In particular, Amy Lesser was 1:56 faster today than her time on this same course earlier in the season. The time from Madelyn to Madelline (#1-5) was only 1 minute, which was the best in the PAC.”

This concluded the 2016 women’s cross country season. The top seven runners will race at the NCAA DIII Championships on November 12.
