dundaBeaver Falls, PA – Under the direction of seventh year head coach Gary Dunda, the 16-4-1 Golden Tornadoes have been regionally recognized as a top tier program by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Throughout the 2016 season, the Geneva College men’s soccer Golden Tornadoes have been named a top ten program in the Great Lakes Region finishing the season ranked fifth. On Monday, November 28, Dunda was named the 2016 NSCAA Men’s Soccer NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.

“Being named the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional Staff of the year is an incredible honor and I am humbled to receive this award,” said Dunda. “This would not be possible without huge contributions from my assistants Mike Bair, Caleb Musselman and Jeb Nash. They are dedicated, passionate and selfless. It is truly a group effort day in and day out that lead to our success this past season. Most importantly I want to thank the players for all their hard work, competitive spirit, and passion for our soccer family here at Geneva.”

Dunda and the Golden Tornadoes shattered all expectations for the 2016 season peppering the program’s record book including a 14-game winning streak, a Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship and an appearance into the NCAA Division III men’s soccer national tournament. Geneva earned a perfect 8-0 record against conference opponents on its way to being 2016 champions. Dunda was named the PAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year leading Geneva to the program’s first-ever conference championship title.

“I am so grateful that Coach Dunda has again been recognized for the great work he has done for our men’s soccer program,” said Van Zanic, Geneva College Athletic Director. “He is simply a great coach but most importantly he is a mentor to the young men in that program. He has dealt with much more than any coach has had to deal with in the past two years and has been an amazing leader throughout the ups and downs.”
