Geneva Education Remains Affordable for Students

Geneva College is announcing a modest price increase this year that continues Geneva’s solid commitment to providing quality, private Christian education in difficult economic times. The 1.5% increase falls below the Consumer Price index for the fifth year in a row.

Geneva is a leader in enhancing affordability. Over the past three years, Geneva’s tuition increases have been 80% lower than the average of its top 28 competitors. When setting tuition rates for 2017, Geneva again focused on affordability for its students. This year, Geneva tuition will rise by 1.5%, for a total of $26,065 per year. Room and board will increase by 1.5%, for a total of $9,917 for the year.

“We know that the cost of a quality college education presents challenges to students and their families today,” says Geneva College President Calvin L. Troup. “A private, Christian college education is a great educational value with long-term benefits, so we have to continue to enhance affordability for students now and into the future. We want to provide the best possible education at the best possible price—to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor. So we’re taking strategic steps that can have a positive impact for quality and affordability for many years to come.”

Geneva is adding an annual Campus Services Fee of $500 for traditional undergraduate students in fall 2017. (By comparison, more than 85% of Geneva’s competitive schools charge a services fee, with an average charge of more than $1,000 annually.) Geneva’s services fee will support student-centered upgrades in technology infrastructure, technological streamlining to simplify billing as well as to payments to students who work on campus, and campus safety.

The college has committed to over $1 million in voice and data upgrades providing increased core network bandwidth and speed, campus-wide wireless that will extend coverage across campus grounds and buildings, as well as improved security and firewalls. Geneva’s Tech Center also provides quality technology support to students, including services like repair of devices for both educational and personal use (cost to students: parts only) and free access to Microsoft Office 365 software for five computers or mobile devices per student.

The college is also implementing an automated payroll system, Paychex, which will allow students to apply for employment online. Student employees will be able to register work hours and access their tax information online as well.  Geneva’s partnership with Nelnet also gives students only access to Student Choice Refunds and Student Financial Services.

Finally, the college will install new security cameras on campus and expand the presence of security officers on campus to enhance student safety.

Geneva College is a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor. Offering over 40 traditional undergraduate majors and programs, Adult Degree Programs with fully online and classroom options, and high-demand graduate degrees, Geneva's programs are recognized for their high quality. U.S. News & World Report ranks Geneva as a Top Five Regional Best Value with one of the Top 100 engineering programs in the nation. Adhering to the truth of Scripture, a Geneva education is grounded in God’s Word as well as in a core curriculum designed to prepare students vocationally to think, write and communicate well in today’s world.
