Beaver Falls, PA – It is easy to celebrate Christmas; merry songs, wreaths, pretty lights, cozy homes and the exchanging of gifts makes it all the easier to show love and share time together while celebrating the birth of Christ. Geneva’s campus has made it a staple to also engage in the community in celebration of the Christmas season. Angel Tree is a nation-wide, Prison Fellowship program that focuses on connecting incarcerated parents to their children. Geneva student-athletes and campus continued their partnership with TRAILS Ministries, the Angel Tree Coordinator for Beaver County.

Geneva student, Abby Preston led the organization of an Angel Tree Christmas party held on Saturday, December 3 on the college’s campus inviting the Center of Student Engagement’s Angel Tree kids and families along with the members of the baseball, track & field and tennis team’s kids and families.

“This was the first time I ever heard of Angel Tree,” says Victoria Hinds, a freshman on the women’s tennis team and member of Geneva’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). “It was awesome seeing all the kids having fun, smile during the games and have a nice meal. We got to talk with the parents and serve them a meal and coffee. A lot of the parents were very open about their lives and it was very eye opening to hear some of their stories. I love people but as a freshman it is hard jumping into the community so I really enjoyed being involved.”

“Geneva’s spring sport programs were able to serve 10 kids this Christmas,” says Christy Lear, Sports Information Director at Geneva and SAAC Staff Advisor. “It is something special to see the teams shop together, wrap together and deliver the gifts together to love my neighbors and their kids.

“It is also an exciting opportunity to work with the Center of Student Engagement. The CSE has done a great job developing ways for students to engage in the community. Abby Preston did a great job organizing the Angle Tree party with the support and direction of Missy Nyeholt and the staff and resources from TRAILS Ministries.”

Through the CSE, 15 kids were given Christmas gifts while the spring sport teams supported 10, serving 25 kids in the Beaver Falls community.
