Collision with Calvin Hands Geneva 80-57 Loss

Springfield, OH – Geneva men’s basketball collision with Calvin College on Friday, December 30 at Wittenberg University’s Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic handed the Golden Tornadoes an 80-57 loss. The loss levels Geneva’s overall record to 5-5 remaining 2-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Calvin opened the game 5-0 and locked Geneva out of any lead change opportunities shooting a 57% from the field and beyond the arch. Trailing by 12 at the half (38-26), Calvin sealed the win outscoring Geneva 42-31 in the second for the 80-57 final.

"We got into some foul trouble and didn’t shoot very well the first five minutes of the game," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "Chaese Vaudrin had a great first half and Ethan Moose had another great game."

Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) led Geneva’s scoring with 17 points from three three-pointers, six from the field and two free throws. He also earned five rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) tallied 14 points from two good threes, five from the field and a pair from the charity stripe.

Ethan Moose (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) went his third straight game earning double-digit points posting 13 against Calvin. Moose worked the field with four baskets and went 5-6 at the line. For his work over the two-day tournament, Moose was honored as all-tournament team player. 

Matt Dragan (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) was a presence off the glass leading the Golden Tornadoes with six rebounds.

"We played two top tier teams this weekend that has prepared us to reenter conference games next week," said Santarsiero.

Geneva returns to conference play for the remainder of the season starting on Tuesday, January 3 at 7:30 p.m. on the road at Saint Vincent College.
