Women’s Basketball Celebrates 71-63 Win Over Thiel & 10 Year Reunion of 2007 NAIA National Team

Beaver Falls, PA – A 24-9 opening first quarter led the Golden Tornadoes to a 71-63 win over the Thiel Tomcats. The conference win raises Geneva’s overall record to 3-5, 1-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) opened the first quarter with a pair of three-pointers and a layup for eight points. Amanda Knecht (Oil City, PA/Agora Cyber Charter School) broke out six more points for the Golden Tornadoes helping Geneva to a 15-point lead entering the second quarter.

Thiel outscored Geneva 20-15 in the second quarter handing Geneva a 10-point lead at the half. The Golden Tornadoes shot an impressive 51% from the field for the double figure advantage; 39-29.

The Tomcats continued to chip away at Geneva’s lead but couldn’t overcome the Golden Tornadoes big first quarter run.

Miranda Heaney recorded 11 points while her twin sister Marissa Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) posted nine.

Jodie Carlson (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) spearheaded the offense with 12 points.

Callie Ford (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) lead the Golden Tornadoes on both sides of the ball scoring 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Knecht finished the game with 8 points.

Off the boards, Rachel Moore (Vandergrift, PA/Apollo Ridge) smothered six rebounds.

Saturday, December 17 Geneva returns to the road at Hiram starting at 2 p.m.
