Beaver Falls, PA – Freshman Ethan Moose’s (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) game-winning layup raised the Geneva men’s basketball Golden Tornadoes over the Grove City Wolverines Thursday (Jan. 5) night in a 57-56 final. The one-point win raises Geneva’s overall record to 6-6, 3-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), leaving Grove City 6-6 overall, 2-3 in the PAC.

“The Grove City/Geneva game is always a battle,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. “It is always decided under 10-points for every game we play.”

The Golden Tornadoes were down 56-55 with 46 seconds left in regulation. The freshman out of New Castle weaved his way inside the paint and finished the effort with a good basket. Sophomore David Oliver (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) sealed the win fighting for the jump ball call to give Geneva possession for the five seconds remaining.

Moose finished as the team’s top scorer with 15 points while also sharing the team-high six rebounds with sophomore Matt Dragan (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe). In addition, Moose tallied two steals, a block and an assist in the victory.

Senior Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) also earned double figures posting 13 points while recording five rebounds.

“Tyler going out early hurt us and Jimmy got into foul trouble so we were playing behind the eight ball a little bit,” said Santarsiero. “I thought Ethan gave us a spark and Jimmy hit a couple shots in the second half so we were able to grind it out.”

On Saturday, January 11 the Golden Tornadoes will be on the road at Thomas More starting the conference double header at 1:00 p.m. with the women’s competition following at 3:00 p.m.
