Close First Half Not Enough; Geneva Women’s Basketball Drops 79-55 Decision

Bethany, WV – The Geneva College women’s basketball team traveled to Bethany College on Wednesday, January 25 to drop a 79-55 decision to the home team. The loss moves the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 4-13, leaving them with a 1-10 record in President’s Athletic Conference play.

With two lead changes and the game being tied three times in the first half of competition, the Bison pulled away from the Golden Tornadoes in the final two quarters of play. The Bison had a strong rebounding night as they were able to pull down 50 rebounds compared to the Golden Tornadoes’ 29. Bethany was also able to shoot 42.4 percent from the field while Geneva only shot 36.4 percent.

Sophomore guard Callie Ford led the offensive efforts with 19 points. Fellow Sophomore Noelle Henry led the team in rebounds with seven overall rebounds. Senior Miranda Heaney led the team in assists with four.

The Golden Tornadoes will host conference opponent Saint Vincent on Saturday, January 28 at 4 p.m. 

Geneva returns to a very exciting day at home. Head Coach Lori Wynn is scheduled to return to College Hill for a visit, returning to the sidelines for the first time in the 2016-17 season. After being diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in July, the sixth-year head coach has become an inspiration for her team, the college and her community as she has successfully been battling cancer in North Carolina.

The PAC has united as a league to support Wynn and all fighting cancer in an initiative to sell Wynn The Battle t-shirts conference-wide the week of January 28 through February 4. T-shirts will be on sale at Geneva on Saturday, January 28 for $5 as the Golden Tornadoes welcome back Wynn.
