Bearcats Best Women Golden Tornadoes 85-46

Latrobe, PA – The Geneva women’s basketball Golden Tornadoes reentered conference play on the road at Saint Vincent on Tuesday, January 3. The Bearcats bested Geneva 85-46, lowering the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 4-7, 1-3 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Callie Ford (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) opened the game with a good three-pointer to hand the Golden Tornadoes the early lead. Tied 11-11 in the first quarter, Saint Vincent went on a nine-point run. Marissa Heaney’s (New Castle, PA/Union) good three-pointer helped Geneva close the gap before the end of the first quarter; 25-19.

The Bearcats caught wind as the Golden Tornadoes were unable to stop the host’s five-point run resulting in a 30-19 score for the start of their double figure lead of the game. Saint Vincent didn’t let up as another 10-point run overwhelmed Geneva eventually handing the Golden Tornadoes a 47-23 halftime disadvantage.

The Bearcats continued where they left off in the second quarter to open the third. Opening with an eight-point run, Saint Vincent led 69-33 entering the fourth. Outscoring Geneva 16-13 in the fourth, Saint Vincent overwhelmed Geneva in an 85-46 final decision.

Geneva’s Jodie Carlson (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) recorded her first double double of the season posting 20 points, 14 rebounds.

The Golden Tornadoes return home to host Grove City on Thursday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m.
