Wolverines Second Half Run Defeats Geneva 69-60

Grove City, Pa. – On Wednesday, February 8 the Grove City Wolverines handed the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes a 69-60 conference road loss. The loss lowers Geneva’s overall record to 9-13, 6-9 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

The tight rival game consisted of multiple lead changes handing Geneva a one-point lead at the half; 30-29. Geneva’s largest lead of the half was seven points at 14:12 while Grove City’s largest lead was four at 16:51. Joey Jou (Miami, FL/Westwood Christian) slam dunk with 4:28 left in the first raised Geneva 24-23. Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) was stellar in first 20 minutes, tallying 11 points for the Golden Tornadoes.

Grove City took the lead by one; 35-34 at 17:20 in the second half. Grove City added to their lead which the Wolverines wouldn’t give up for the rest of the game. Ethan Moose (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) nothing but net jumper moved the scoreboard to 45-40 at 10:07. Moose tallied a steal setting up Leichliter on a fast break. The layup failed but was back up by Tyler Crenshaw (Moon Twp, PA/Moon/Mt. Aloysius) who finish the play and drew a foul. Crenshaw’s layup recorded his sixth point of the game; Geneva down by three, 45-42 at 8:35.

Geneva went cold after Crenshaw’s bucket as Grove City posted a run that would eventually upend the Golden Tornadoes. The Wolverines took the first double-figure lead of the game at 7:49; 52-42.

Moose finished the game as Geneva’s high scorer with 19 points supported by Leichliter with 16 points. Crenshaw put up 12 points and team-high six rebounds. Jou only managed four points but managed to help off the glass with four rebounds. 1,000 point club member, Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) was held to two points in the loss.

Geneva will finish the week out on the road against Chatham on Saturday, February 11, tipoff at 3 p.m.
