Cresson, Pa. – Geneva men’s tennis opened the spring 2017 season facing Mount Aloysius at noon followed by a second match against Penn State Altoona. The Golden Tornadoes (1-4) dropped both matches but showcased some highlights for the future.

“Playing two matches our first day out is a huge test both mentally and physically,” said head coach Mandee Craft. “We did some things well today but we also found some areas we need to work on before we get into PAC matches.”

In the first match of the day, junior Jesse Hooke (Huntingdon, PA / Norwin) and senior David Streit (Mechanicsburg, PA / Mechanicsburg Area) each rallied for individual wins but it wasn’t enough as Geneva men’s tennis (1-4) fell to Mount Aloysius 7-2.

Junior “Captain Hooke” (Jesse Hooke) sealed a win in second singles with the final score of 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. David Streit in fourth singles also tallied a mark in the win column with his own three-set match. Streit’s 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 handed Geneva its second win of the match.

Geneva was unable to generate any more wins against Mount Aloysius, falling 7-2. The Golden Tornadoes turn around to face Penn State Altoona is their second match of the day.

Junior Ethan Stahl (Beaver Falls, PA / BCCS) highlighted the effort in a comeback win in sixth singles (4-6, 6-0, 11-9) and partnered with Streit to win third doubles (8-5).

Geneva will continue its season during the campus’ Spring Break, traveling to Raleigh, North Carolina. The Golden Tornadoes will play two matches during the trip starting on Saturday, March 4 at 3 p.m. against William Peace University.
