Men’s Track & Field Team Showcase Program’s Best Second Place Finish at PAC Indoor Championships

Youngstown, Oh. – The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes showcased a program’s best second place finish at the 2017 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, February 23. Geneva tallied 100 team points while crowning champions in three events on the track and one in the field.

“The men's team had their highest finish ever,” explained head coach Phil Thompson. “We really went out and competed today. I am so thrilled with our results and the way we performed at the biggest meet of the year. I'm very proud of them.”

Geneva’s Cameron Unrath (Wexford, PA/Pine Richland), David Dill (Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest High School), Dalton Paxson (Rochester, PA) and Aaron Tedys (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) upended opponents in the men’s 4x400 meter relay placing first from the slow heat. The men celebrated a time of 3:27.29.

Alex Parker (Meadville, PA/Meadville) is the 2017 men’s 60 meter hurdle PAC Champion. Parker recorded an 8.61 second performance for the gold. 

Tedys was named PAC Champion in the men’s 400 meter race. Tedys ran a new conference record time earning his gold medal with a time of 49.33. In addition, Tedys placed fourth in the men’s 200 meter dash (22.40).

In the field, Isaac Barringer (Delta, OH/Toledo Christian) was named PAC champion in the men’s weight throw with a 14.60 meter toss.

Back on the track, two Golden Tornadoes were honored with silver medals. Clay Smith (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport) placed second in the men’s one mile run with a time of 4:36.78. Josh Duffie’s (Canton, OH/Glenoak) performance in the men’s 5000 meter race with a time of 15:44.35 earned him a silver medal on the podium.

Smith along with teammates Micah Daigneault (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg), Levi Ebersole (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) and Andrew Domencic (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) were honed with a bronze medal in the men’s Distance Medley Relay.

Unrath also earned a bronze medal in the men’s 60 meter dash with a time of 7.08.

In addition to their honors in competition, the league honored the Golden Tornadoes with the 2017 PAC Sportsmanship award.

The Golden Tornadoes are set to kick off the outdoor track & field season on Friday, March 10 at the Seahawk Invitational.
