Beaver Falls, Pa. – The women’s basketball program finished its 2016-17 season hosting the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets on Saturday, February 18. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Golden Tornadoes 83-37, handing Geneva a final 4-21 overall record, 1-17 mark in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Waynesburg entered the game with hot hands posting an 11-0 opening run. The Yellow Jackets sunk four threes in the first ten minutes of play for a 17-9 first quarter score.

Miranda Heaney (New Castle PA/Union) electrified the crowd with a three ball at 7:21 in the second quarter, moving the scoreboard to 22-17. Twin sister Marissa Heaney (New Castle PA/Union) joined the fun hitting a layup finishing a slick pass from Lydia Songer (Wexford PA/Pine Richland); 22-19.

Waynesburg’s deep game recorded eight three-pointers by the half. Geneva entered the locker room down 42-26.

Geneva’s slow offensive start into the third allowed the Yellow Jackets to take a 17-point second half start. The third quarter blues left the Golden Tornadoes down 63-33 after the third quarter.

Geneva finished the game shooting a 29% while Waynesburg racked up a 46% including 11 three-pointers overwhelming the Golden Tornadoes for a final score of 83-37.

After the game, the women’s program honored its three seniors, Rachel Larson, Maranda Heaney and Marissa Heaney.

“Anytime you have to talk about your seniors after their final game is a hard thing because they have made such an impact on the court and off the court,” said head coach Lori Wynn. “My goal is always for our seniors to leave a legacy, and this group has done that. Especially, because this year was a hard and difficult year in so many different ways. They have done a great job leading our team and sustaining it.”
