Thomas More Saints Find 54th Straight Win at Geneva

Beaver Falls, PA –The Thomas More Saints found their 54th straight win against the Golden Tornadoes on Saturday, February 4. The 106-50 home loss lowers Geneva’s overall record to 4-17, 1-13 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC). The national defending NCAA Division III champions entered College Hill ranked fourth in the nation. Thomas More improves to 21-0, 14-0 in the PAC.

Geneva momentarily led Thomas More 3-2 at 8:40 in the first quarter after Marissa Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) sunk a three ball from the top of the key. Thomas More answered with a 14-point run. Lydia Songer (Wexford, PA/Warsaw) broke up the run with a good three-pointer. After the first quarter of play, Geneva trailed 23-8.

The Golden Tornadoes hit a hot streak from beyond the circle hitting three deep buckets off the hands of Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union), Callie Ford (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local) and Songer. Despite being down 28 points at the half, 56-28, Geneva shot a 52.4% from the field, 71.4% beyond the arch on the offensive end of the game. 

The second half was a different story for the Golden Tornadoes offense. Geneva’s offense went cold in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Saints added to their advantage with a 24-point run. A basket finally went through for the Golden Tornadoes with 2:24 left in the quarter from another three-pointer from Ford. The third quarter ended with a score of 83-33.

During the fourth quarter the Saints hit triple figures on the scoreboard. The Golden Tornadoes finished the game shooting 40.5% from the field with nine three-pointers.

Songer led the Geneva’s scoring with 16 points supported by Ford with 12. Noelle Henry (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) led the Golden Tornadoes rebounding game with seven.

Next week, Geneva will continue play on the road at Grove City, facing the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m.
