Beaver Falls, Pa. – After supporting Geneva College’s head coach Lori Wynn, her staff, and the Geneva College athletic department, the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) blessed the Golden Tornadoes one last time to close out the winter sports season. The PAC named the entire Geneva College women’s basketball coaching staff as the 2017 PAC Coach of the Year.

The staff which includes seventh-year head coach Lori Wynn, interim associate head coach Patience Baker and assistant coach Kendall Hunter have led the Golden Tornadoes through a battle no one ever looks forward to: Cancer. On June 30, Coach Wynn was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, changing her life and the lives of Coach Baker, Coach Hunter and, of course, the 12 student-athletes known as the Golden Tornadoes.

The 2016-17 season produced wins and losses like any other basketball season but this season a head coach stayed in touch from North Carolina as much as possible while receiving chemo treatments.

“It's incredibly humbling for our staff to be given this honor,” says Wynn. “Coach Baker and Coach Hunter have done such an incredible job this season under really difficult circumstances. I am truly blessed to have such an outstanding and dedicated staff.”

The PAC postseason awards are determined by the coaches of the institutions that make up the league: Chatham, Bethany, Geneva, Grove City, Saint Vincent, Thiel, Thomas More, Washington & Jefferson and Westminster.

“It was pretty classy of the PAC coaches to recognize our whole coaching staff in this way,” expresses Wynn. “It says a lot about their characters and makes me proud to be a part of a conference that lives up to its values. We are extremely grateful for their support and encouragement throughout this season.”

“This season was difficult, more difficult than I think anyone could imagine,” says Interim Associate Head Coach Patience Baker. “This award does not represent our abilities as a coaching staff to display perseverance and fight; it represents the amount of love, prayer and support the entire PAC gave us all season long. And for that, I am truly grateful.”

“Coach Wynn trusted me and Kendall 100 percent. Yes, she gave us strategy input, which was great, but above all coach gave both of us support and confidence throughout the season. And that speaks volumes about her character and the type of mentor, friend and coach she is.”

“It has been an absolute blessing coaching alongside Coach Wynn and Coach Baker,” Assistant Coach Kendall Hunter says. “This year has taught me that while basketball is important, it is still ultimately a game, and we cannot take for granted each time we get to step on the floor.”

This Geneva College Women’s Basketball coaching staff will never forget the 2016-17 season and neither will anyone who had the opportunity to witness these three coaches support each other and the student-athletes in the program.
