(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College′s National Day of Prayer breakfast will take place on Thursday, May 4 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in Alexander Hall. This year′s theme is “For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us... Forgive Us...Heal Us!,” based on Daniel 9:19: “O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God…”

Rev. Dr. John Guest, Minister-at-Large at Christ Church at Grove Farm, will speak at the breakfast. Rev. Guest has ministered for over 40 years in the Pittsburgh region, serving 15 years as the head pastor at Christ Church in Sewickley. Originally from Oxford, England, Rev. Guest committed his life to Jesus Christ at age 18 at a Billy Graham event in London. He now focuses on national and international outreach as a speaker and radio host.

The National Day of Prayer, held on the first Thursday of every May, has been acknowledged by Congress as an annual event since it was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952. It strives to emphasize the nation′s love and dependence on God.

According to the official website, “As citizens and residents of the United States and as believers in Christ Jesus, we not only have a spiritual responsibility according to 1 Timothy 2:1-2 to pray, but a civic duty as well to heed our President’s call to stand in the gap for our nation. At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray.”

Geneva′s prayer breakfast is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public.

The free-will offering taken will benefit Pine Valley Bible Camp and the Tiger Pause Ministry of Beaver Falls.
