Geneva’s Bats Get Hot in Game One Against Hilbert; GTs Settle for Split

Fort Pierce, Fl. – The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes split their double header match up against opponent Hilbert College on Friday, March 10. Geneva’s offense exploded in game one for an 8-5 win followed by a 7-1 loss. The split moves Geneva’s overall record to 2-4, remaining 0-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

In game one of the double header, Geneva and Hilbert ended the first inning at two runs apiece. The Golden Tornadoes took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. To solidify the win, Geneva’s offense tallied two more runs in fourth, one more in the sixth for the final score of 8-5.

Senior Jeff Parker (Green Brook, NJ/Timothy Christian) earned the win for Geneva. He went five innings, giving up five runs, five hits, and threw one strike out.

Geneva collected nine hits from junior Joey Luciana (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph), junior Forrest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk), and sophomore Jericho Hilling (Willamsburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) who each collected multiple hits. Freshman Jacob Poremski (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area), Hilling, Beighley, and sophomore Mark Overmier (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) each drove in one run.

Despite leading the game with a run in the first inning of game one, Geneva wasn’t able to stop Hilbert offensive movement in the fourth. Hilbert’s comeback posted three runs in the fourth followed by four runs in the sixth.

Senior Caleb Metzler (Lititz, PA/Warwick) took the loss for Geneva. He threw for five innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, and striking out six batters.

Junior Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) and Luciana each managed one hit to lead Geneva.

Geneva returns to action tomorrow Saturday, March 11 against Immaculata University in a double header starting at 10 a.m.
