Beaver Falls, Pa. - Geneva baseball split in their second home double-header of the 2017 season on Tuesday, March 21. Geneva triumphed in the first game against the visiting Medaille College, earning an 11-6 win to start the day off. The team could not maintain their momentum through the second game, falling in a 17-9 loss to finish the day off. The split brings the Golden Tornadoes’ season record to 6-8 overall, remaining 0-0 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play.

Junior Joey Luciana’s (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph) double out to left field early on the first inning put Geneva on the scoreboard by bringing junior Tyler Pagaduan (Voorhess, NJ/Eastern Regional) over the home plate followed closely by Luciana crossing the plate two batters later on a passed ball, earning Geneva the lead heading into the second inning of the game.

The Golden Tornadoes were able to widen their lead in the third quarter, bringing four boys over the plate. But, it was during the bottom of the fourth inning that the team really showed their strength as Geneva capitalized on every opportunity given to them. Junior Forrest Beighley’s (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) single to left field was enough to bring Pagaduan and Luciana home for the second time of the game. Dillon Taggart (Livingston Manor, NY/Livingston Manor Central) and Vinney Howells (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) both followed quickly with hard drives which brought Beighley and Dan Staub (Oil City, PA/Oil City) home, delivering Geneva its 11 runs of the game.

Game two started off with high spirits and energy as sophomore first baseman Jericho Hilling (Willamsburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) hit his first home run of the season with two men on base, helping Geneva earn their 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning. The offensive attack did not prove to be enough as Medaille responded with eight runs in the second inning. Geneva was unable to answer, resulting in the 17-9 loss.

Geneva will return to the 33rd street field on Friday, March 24 at 4:30 for a nine-inning game against PAC foe Grove City College for the conference season opener.
