Thiel Hands Geneva a Pair of Conference Losses; 3-0, 9-4

Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College baseball team hosted Thiel College in a double header Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) match up on Wednesday, March 29. The Tomcats defeated Geneva 3-0 in game one and 9-4 in the second. The double loss moves the Golden Tornadoes overall record 6-13 with a conference record of 0-5.

Game one was a complete game for the Tomcats as they committed no errors in the field, scored three unanswered runs in the second, third, and seventh inning. Freshman Josh Grant (Allison Park, PA/ Shaler) took the loss for the Golden Tornadoes after pitching for six innings. He allowed five hits, two runs, walked four batters and struck out two.

Game two ended in the same fashion for the Golden Tornadoes as they dropped the second game 9-4. Geneva tallied two runs in the fifth off Jericho Hilling’s (Willamsburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) 2 RBI single to right field. In the seventh, Mark Overmier (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) drew the RBI walk for Geneva’s third run. Dan Staub (Oil City, PA/Oil City) did his job grounding out to third for a sacrifice hit to bring home Jacob Poremski (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) to tally Geneva’s fourth and final run. Anthony DeMeo (Broadview Heights, OH/Brecksville) took the loss on the mound.

Up next, the Golden Tornadoes are on the road on Friday, March 31 at Saint Vincent College to face the Bearcats at 4 p.m. in a single nine-inning game.
