Fort Myers, Fl. –The 5-4 eight inning loss to Alverno put a chip on Geneva’s shoulder entering the day’s second scheduled game against Rockford. After scoring a run in the first and surrendering a run in the third, Geneva entered the sixth tied 1-1. The Golden Tornadoes six-run sixth inning offensive effort lifted Geneva 7-1 over Rockford. Geneva now holds a 2-2 overall record, scheduled for two more games tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8.

Against Alverno, Casey Farkosovsky (Beaver, PA/Beaver) hit one over the left field fence recording a two-run homer which brought home Haley Sainato (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) for the 2-1 lead in the third. Ahead 3-1 entering the sixth, Geneva suffered an Alverno comeback tallying a run in the sixth and seventh along with two more in the eighth. Bobbie Ann Theiss’ (Lisbon, OH/Beaver Local) RBI single in the bottom of the eighth wasn’t enough to answer Alverno’s rally.

Geneva posted its first run against Rockford in the first off Farkosovsky’s bat welcoming Sainato home. Farkosovsky went 3-4 against Rockford as the DP, going 4-7 with five RBIs on the day.

Geneva’s sixth inning winning rally posted six runs and four hits while capitalizing on two Rockford errors.

“It was nice to come back and get a win in game two. But, I feel like we took a step back today,” said head coach Van Zanic. “I just don’t think we played our best softball. Offensively in the second game, we were able to generate some runs and win the game but we had an opportunity to win two today and we didn’t take advantage of it. From that perspective, it was disappointing; we want to get better every day and I feel like we took a step backwards.

“Bobbie Ann pitched a great game against Rockford,” added Zanic.

Theiss (1-0) recorded her first win of the season pitching all seven innings recording a strike out, allowing eight hits.

Geneva turns around for another pair of games tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8. The Golden Tornadoes will face Clark University (9 a.m.) and Eastern Nazarene (11 a.m.) at the North Collier Regional Park in Naples, Florida.
