Walk Off Win Over Chatham Helps GTs Celebrate Senior Day

gtBeaver Falls, Pa – In their last conference home game of the season, the Geneva College softball team swept the visiting Chatham University in a two-game series. The Golden Tornadoes defeated the Cougars 6-0 in game one before struggling to repeating the process in game two with the 7-6 score. Now 19-13 overall, Geneva heads to the last few season games with a 8-6 Presidents’ Athletic Conference record.

Senior Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD/Chapelgate Christian) got the game rolling with SAC RBI sending Haley Sainato (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) home for the 1-0 score in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Erika Hess (Erie, PA/Iroquois) singled to left field to send home Hannah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) for the 2-0. Sevy reached first base in the fourth with enough distraction to allow Haley to score the third run.

Geneva brought the heat in the fifth inning as the home team was able to convert three more runs for the 6-0 final score. Casey Farkosovsky (Beaver, PA/Beaver) earned the win after pitching five innings. In her work, she lived in a world of twos; two walks, two strikeouts, and two hits.

Game two brought much the same story to Conrady Field that Game one did. The Cougars struck first by scoring on a two-out rally in the first, connecting for three additional runs in the second, all before homering to start the third.

Geneva found an answer for the drought in the bottom of the fourth. Logan hit a long double to right field to bring home April Lude (Canfield, OH/Western Reserve) to start the rally. Hess drove a single down through the infield to bring in the second run before Sainato outran the throw to bring home the third run for the 5-3 score.

Chatham squeaked through one more run in the top of the fifth for the 6-3 score before Farkosovsky connected with Logan to catch the runner stealing home to end the inning.

In the fifth, Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA/Mohawk) hit a double to get things rolling. Ashley Grow (Beaver, OH/Waverly) it a long SAC fly to send Fee to third where she would score from after Lude batted her in for the 6-4 score.

In the bottom of the seventh, Farkosovsky found an answer and homer over the left field fence for the 6-5 score. Fee continued her work by hitting a single down the left side. Grow squeezed one past the left side to add a baserunner. Loving the left side, Lude struck on past the defense to bring home Fee for the tie score. Logan walked to load the bases before Hess hit a bomb to left field for the walk-off win.

The Golden Tornadoes will look to continue the hot streak as they head to the third seed, Bethany College, on Saturday April 22 for their 1 and 3 p.m. start time.
