(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Kansas Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Caleb Stegall, will speak at Geneva College on Thursday, September 21 and again on Friday, September 22. The public is invited to attend both free events.

In Skye Lounge on Thursday, September 21 at 7 p.m., Stegall will speak on “Recovering Our Unwritten Constitution.” The following day, Thursday, September 22 at 10:10 a.m., his topic will be “What Is the Law?” in John White Chapel in Old Main. Both lectures are presented in recognition of the anniversary of the adoption of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.

Stegall, a 1993 graduate of Geneva College, currently presides over cases that come before the Kansas Supreme Court. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law where he served on the Kansas Law Review. In 2011, Stegall was named Chief Counsel to Governor Sam Brownback. Following Stegall’s tenure on the Kansas Court of Appeals, Gov. Brownback appointed him to the Kansas Supreme Court in 2014.

“To have a speaker of Justice Stegall’s stature and prominence is quite an honor, let alone to claim him as a Geneva alumnus,” says Dr. Jeffrey Cole, Geneva College Professor of History. “Commemorating Constitution Day by discussing the law and the Constitution with our distinguished guest is the type of unique and inspirational educational experience that Geneva loves to provide for our students.”

Stegall created the law firm Stegall & Associates in Perry, Kansas in 2005. It was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top firms in Kansas. Stegall & Associates specialized in complex constitutional and commercial litigation, making Stegall an expert in Constitutional law and the areas of commercial, tort, and appellate litigation.

Stegall handled a variety of significant cases, including successfully representing American missionaries charged with serious crimes in Haiti after the devastating earthquake in 2010. Stegall was awarded the Kansas Bar Association's 2010 Pro Bono Certificate for his work on behalf of the missionaries.
