Geneva College Undergraduates, Alumnus Awarded First Place at PA Communication Association

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College students Natalyn Chamberlin and Erika Kauffman tied for first place in undergraduate submissions from 30 competitive papers at the 78th annual conference of the Pennsylvania Communication Association (PCA) held September 29-30, 2017 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, Geneva alumnus Michael Kearney (’17) placed first for graduate submissions; he is pursuing his master’s degree at Duquesne. 

Geneva graduate scholars and professorsGeneva College was well represented by communication major students. Besides Chamberlain and Kauffman, Rachael Piscatello and Jennifer Rice presented their work, as well as alumna Mikayla Covington (’16), who is currently in the master’s program at Duquesne.

Geneva Associate Professor, Dr. Richard Talbert, was newly elected to the PCA Executive Council as a member-at-large. He also served as chair of the Media and Technology interest council and facilitated and provided critique for the discussion, “Humanity and the Struggle for Integration and Interaction in a Virtual World.”

Geneva Assistant Professor, Dr. Joel Ward, was chair of the Communication Honors Society interest council and facilitated the discussion, “Up and Coming Undergraduate Voices in Academia.” He also served as chair and respondent for the panel, “Community Desire, Creation, and Development: An Analysis of Shared Communal Environment.”
