Alayna Merkle – Track
Alayna Merkle has been selected as the female student-athlete of the week. Merkle set a new school record in the one-mile race at the NCCAA national track and field meet. Merkle posted a record time of 5:23.77 in the one-mile which was good enough for a ninth place finish. Ironically, Merkle broke the school record on the same track that it was originally set two years ago. Later in the day, Merkle turned her attention to the 3000 meter race and simply ran a personal best time of 10:57.12 which was good enough for 13th place overall.

Lorello helped lead Geneva to a perfect 3-0 week and launch the Golden Tornadoes into the PAC tournament as the number seven seed. Lorello averaged 21 points in Geneva’s three victories and shot 79% from the field (27-34). He also pulled down 17 rebounds in the week including nine in Geneva’s season finale win over Westminster. Two key offensive rebounds from Lorello late in the game helped seal Geneva’s victory over the Titans.
