January 14, 2013, 2012 Athletic Update

geneva_tornado_logo_web.pngAt this point it has simply become a case of not being able to put two solid halves together for the men’s basketball team. In three of their last four games, the Golden Tornadoes were unable to hold a halftime lead before losing. In the other loss, Geneva outscored its opponent in the second half but was unable to overcome a big halftime deficit. The women’s team put together a second half rally of its own at Westminster on Saturday but came up short against the Titans.

It’s been either a solid first half or a solid second half for the Geneva College men’s basketball team. Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes have not been able to put two halves together to get back into the win column. Losses against Grove City, Thomas More and most recently Westminster have all come after Geneva took a lead into the locker room. The frustration continues to mount for a Geneva team that opens the new week with an overall record of 1-14, including a 1-6 mark in the PAC. Matt Lorello scored 17 points in a loss at Saint Vincent last Wednesday before scoring 18 at New Wilmington on Saturday. Geneva remained winless on the road with a mark of 0-6 away from College Hill. Geneva will look for that elusive first road win on Wednesday night at Washington & Jefferson before returning home on Saturday to host Thiel College.

The Geneva women’s team seemed well on its way to dropping a decisive decision to Westminster on Saturday. With nine minutes left in the game, the Golden Tornadoes trailed the Titans 42-21. In the next nine minutes, the Golden Tornadoes outscored Westminster 19-4 and came up on the short end of a 46-40 decision. Leah Prisuta scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss. The Golden Tornadoes lost for the ninth consecutive time against Saint Vincent last Wednesday despite a solid showing from freshman Becca Sargent who scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds for Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes are still seeking their first road victory overall and their first conference win of the season. Geneva comes into the week with an overall record of 2-13 and 0-8 in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes will look to put an end to both streaks on Wednesday night when they visit Washington & Jefferson.
