December 17, 2012 Athletic Update

It will be an extra special Christmas for the Geneva College women’s basketball team especially for coaches Lori Wynn and Ashley Dupler. The Golden Tornadoes picked up their first victory of the season on Saturday and did so against the alma mater of both Geneva coaches.

In the only action of the week, the Geneva women overcame a 12-point first half deficit to secure a 64-55 victory over Houghton College. Houghton came into the game ranked eighth in NCCAA Division I and the Golden Tornadoes took care of business to move to 1-8 on the season. Heidi Mann led the offense with 20 points while Leah Prisuta added 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Chelsea D’Urso scored 14 points and Bri Cowden came off the bench to add 11 points in the victory. The Golden Tornadoes earned two weeks off before getting back on the court at the Geneva tournament on December 28-29. Geneva will host Wooster and Franciscan on the two day event. Conference play opens with a home game against Thomas More on January 2nd.

Geneva’s men were off this past week and will resume play at the Wooster Tournament on Dec 28-29. The Golden Tornadoes will take on Marietta and John Carroll during the tournament. The Golden Tornadoes will host Thomas More in PAC action on January 2nd.
