Academic Counseling Center and Educational Supportive Services (ACCESS)
Resources are available in the ACCESS Office for students who wish to strengthen their academic skills. Services include individual counseling, time management exercises, evaluation and professional review of study skills, and several workshops each semester which address a variety of topics which contribute to academic success. Topics are selected based on student feedback.
Learning and Study Skills Inventory (LASSI)
LASSI is a web based assessment of 10 primary learning and study skills. Skills such as concentration, attitude, anxiety, test preparation, and use of study aids are evaluated. This 70-question assessment takes about 20 minutes. An appointment can be made with a professional staff member to review the results and strategize for academic success. There is no charge for the LASSI.
Time Management
One of the most critical components to academic success is the ability to make wise choices about time. God expects good stewardship in all things, including the way time is spent. Every day, students are faced with a myriad of wonderful opportunities which demand their attention and use of time on Geneva’s campus. Professional staff is available to provide time management strategies for students who desire to make stewardly decisions about using the hours available to them.
Study Skills Workshops
One-hour study skills workshops are offered every semester. Topics vary and are impacted by student requests. Some of the topics addressed in the past include stress management, note-taking, nutrition, learning styles, self advocacy, and power learning.
