Students who desire tutoring in a particular class should initially seek assistance from professors and departmental assistants. Peer tutors for many classes are available for one hour per week per class at
no charge. Tutor request forms are available in the ACCESS Office or by clicking on the link to the right. Tutoring is available throughout the semester, but early tutor requests provide the best opportunity for assistance.
How to become a tutor
Faculty members identify prospective tutors each semester. Students who wish to become peer tutors should obtain a faculty recommendation for the course(s) for which they would like to tutor, then contact the Tutor Coordinator. Qualified tutors will:
| 1. |
Review course content and teach skills such as note taking and test taking. |
| 2. |
Communicate regularly with the student's professor to determine suitable strategies, building on strengths. |
| 3. |
Identify specific problems that are hindering the student's progress in his/her course work. |
| 4. |
Support and encourage students with honest and appropriate feedback. |
| 5. |
Interact skillfully, creating a positive learning environment. |
The Writing Center

These tutors are available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30-9:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 p.m., in the Writing Center located on the bottom floor of the McCartney Library. They assist students in the planning, drafting, revising and editing phases of composition.
