Geneva’s MBA students top the charts

ETSAfter taking this year's Educational Testing Service Major Field Tests (ETS-MFT), Geneva’s graduating Master's in Business Administration (MBA) students performed in the 95th national percentile.

The ETS-MFT are comprehensive undergraduate and MBA outcomes assessments that go beyond the measurement of factual knowledge to evaluate students’ ability to analyze and solve problems, understand relationships and interpret material in their major field of study.

In addition to providing opportunities to improve curricula and compete for performance funding, the tests are also a valuable tool for institutions to compare the effectiveness of their programs to those at colleges and universities across the country.

MBA Program Director Christen Adels says that while Geneva admission standards aren’t as high as Harvard and other renowned institutions, Geneva is equipping students to perform at the top tier of the business world. “We've developed a program in which we're meeting the expectations of the marketplace in preparing students to manage businesses.”

Geneva MBA graduates scored in the 50th percentile when the exam was last administered in 2006. However, over the past few years, the business faculty and administration have examined the program and implemented a number of significant changes.

A second finance class and a course in management thought have been added to the MBA core curriculum. Business simulations have been integrated into several undergraduate- and graduate-level classes to provide students with hands-on opportunities to apply classroom learning to life-like business scenarios.

“We want to make sure what we're teaching reflects what’s happening right now in the business world,” Adels says. “The use of simulations is key…it enables students to see how all the components of the program relate from a strategic viewpoint to running a company.”
