Flinn, Jewell oversee Route 18 fundraising The long-awaited relocation of Route 18 from the middle of campus is closer to becoming reality, and a steering committee has been established to spearhead campus development after the road is moved in 2007. Bill Flinn and Paul Jewell '67 are co-chairing the project's steering committee, which will engage support from various constituencies and raise the necessary funds to enhance the campus after the roadway's construction.
Flinn is the owner of Bill Flinn Insurance Agency in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, which he established in 1972. Flinn also founded Hillcrest Christian Academy in 1982. His children, Jennifer and Jason, are recent Geneva graduates. He will help Geneva make the case for moving Route 18 and campus development project to parents of current and former Geneva students.
Jewell was the vice president of human resources at People's Home Savings Bank in Beaver Falls and the treasurer of the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce. He is married to Joy (Morgan '68), Geneva's vice president for student development. Jewell will spearhead the effort to get local businesses involved in the Route 18.
Students write Bush Geneva 's student-led pro-life group organized a campaign in February to show support for President George W. Bush's “culture of life” State of the Union address.
Faith Barrett, senior human service major, Abigail Moore, senior communication major, and Suzanne Robinson, junior communication disorders major, are working with other students to promote the pro-life cause on campus and in the community. The three met in early February to identify ways to encourage more students to get involved in local pro-life efforts.
They also designed a campaign that reinforced Bush's January address, which encouraged the nation to develop a “culture of life” by opposing abortion, euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research. Barrett, Moore and Robinson created a greeting card that captured the essence of the address on the front cover while leaving the inside of the card blank. The group printed 400 of the cards and urged students to write a note of encouragement to Bush inside of each one. They plan to mail them later this week.
...PRAY FOR EACH OTHER..." James 5:16
Please pray for our students as most of them will travel during spring break. Many will go home, the Genevans will be on a southern concert tour, athletic teams will be in training, and ministry teams and others will visit various locales. The Route 18 project needs your prayer support, too. Besides the motor and pedestrian traffic safety issue, other exciting things are associated with moving the highway from the center of campus. Pray that the Lord will oversee each step of that undertaking.
The institutional advancement office prays every week for alumni and friends of the college. We welcome your prayer requests. <<submit requests>>
We thank the Lord for His continual blessing on our students, faculty and staff. |
