Life "G"atgeneva_kay.jpg

Theodore "Ted" O. Kay '71, an executive at General Motors, received the Life G for his dedication to Geneva College and his lifetime of achievements April 21, 2006 at the Alumni Dinner.

The Life "G" award is the highest recognition given by the Alumni Association to a graduate of Geneva College.  This annual award is presented each year during Alumni Weekend at the Annual Alumni Dinner in the spring.  Those receiving the award were previous recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.  In addition to a plaque, the recipient is given a diamond-studded lapel pin shaped in a "G."

Ted has worked at GM for 35 years. When he first started with the company, his responsibilities included hourly payroll timekeeping and filling out paperwork for accident claims and workers' sick days. In his current position as finance manager of the Worldwide Facilities Group and vice-president of REALM and ENCORE, Ted oversees company operations totaling $1.7 billion.

Ted is president of Geneva's Alumni Council, and he played a key role in helping to reinvigorate the group after years of inactivity. He received the Distinguished Service Award from Geneva in 2001, and GM has also recognized his leadership with its Crew, Captain, Chairman's Honor, President's Council, and Chairman's Honor awards.

He has taught at the University of Michigan and recently guest lectured in two Geneva business classes. Ted is a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. He and his wife, Chevon, have a 16-year-old son, Anthony.

Distinguished Service Awards

The Alumni Association of Geneva College, through its awards committee, annually selects former students to be recognized for achievement in their chosen field.  The award is also a means of honoring alumni for the contribution or recognition they have brought to the College.  The Distinguished Service Award is presented at the Annual Alumni Dinner during Alumni Weekend and at the President's Council Dinner held during Homecoming Weekend.  Those chosen to receive the award are usually members of the reunion years.  The committee's desire is to remain consistent with Geneva's aim and objectives as a Christian college.  The presentation of the award is to bring honor to both the college and the recipient.

The following alumni were awarded a DSA at the annual Alumni Dinner April 21.

  • Dr. Elias M. Awad '56, a professor of management information systems at the University of Virginia
  • Louise E. Copeland '66, director of parent and church relations and an associate professor of music at Geneva College
  • Dr. Robert M. Copeland '66, a professor of music at Geneva College
  • Donald E. Hollerman '71, a high school guidance counselor for the Ellwood City Area School District
  • Ralph A. Kessler '66 a retired German language teacher in the Mt. Lebanon School District.

...PRAY FOR EACH OTHER...

James 5:16

Please pray for our students as most leave campus for summer activities. Graduating seniors are beginning careers or seeking higher education. Many students have summer employment and many others are still seeking temporary jobs. The Genevans choir is preparing for a European trip next month and will be Geneva's ambassadors of music in Ireland, England, and other places. Please pray for the group's safety in travel. We thank God for his care and protection of the school this past year. He has richly blessed us with fine students and committed faculty.

We continue to pray for your specific requests as you communicate them to us. Thank you for sharing.

The institutional advancement office prays every week for alumni and friends of the college. We welcome your prayer requests. <<submit requests>>

We thank the Lord for His continual blessing on our students, faculty and staff members.
