Mike Jeffreys & Emily Hoobler

Geneva College Athletes of the week for the week of April 2-6, 2012:

Women:

Emily Hoobler – Track and Field
Distance
Stoneboro, PA

Emily Hoobler has been selected as the female student-athlete of the week. Hoobler finished just six seconds off her personal best time in Friday’s 1500 meter race at Mt. Union University. Her time of 19:08 was good enough for 11th place overall. However, her time and finish in the race do not tell the whole story. Early in the race, one of her shoes was stepped on and came off. After running for a while with only one shoe, she decided to kick the other shoe off as to not throw off her stride. Hoobler finished the race barefoot and still managed to turn in one of her finest performances at Geneva.

Men:

Mike Jeffreys – Baseball
Pitcher
Coraopolis, PA

Mike Jeffreys has been selected as the male student-athlete of the week. Jeffreys did was pitching staff aces are supposed to do when things aren’t going well for a team. The sophomore took the mound in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader against Westminster and architected a masterpiece. Westminster had scored 52 runs in its previous three games and brought a perfect 8-0 conference record into the game. Despite those offensive numbers, Jeffreys hurled a complete game shut-out and allowed just three hits while striking out seven batters along the way.
