Samantha Johnson and Jeff Parker

Geneva College Athletes of the week for the week of April 7 - April 13, 2014:

Women

Samantha Johnson - Softball

Sophomore - Pitcher

Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional

Samantha Johnson has been selected as the Geneva women's athlete of the week. Johnson pitched all 14 innings of a 9-1, 5-0 doubleheader win over Grove City, striking out 16 and walking none. In addition, she had five hits and drove home four runs. Making Johnson’s performance even more impressive is that her younger brother still attends Franklin Regional and had a friend stabbed in the incident at the school.“It was a very emotional day for her,” said Geneva coach Van Zanic. “But she stepped up for us. On the road at  St. Vincent on Saturday Johnson pitched 14 innings, allowed nine hits and allowed just one runner to reach as far as third base. "That's the best I've seen her pitch," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "They weren't squaring up on her pitches at all. It was really big to get two straight doubleheader sweeps on the road."
