Lauren Londino – Soccer Lauren Londino has been selected as the female student-athlete of the week. Londino tied a pair of Geneva women’s soccer records this past week with her work in goal. She did not allow a goal in Geneva’s first four games of the season matching the school record for consecutive shut-outs. In addition, she picked up her career record tying 21st shut-out in impressive fashion on Friday night at Buffalo State. In a scoreless overtime tie, Londino turned away all 14 shots on goal to extend her scoreless streak to four straight. The streak came to an end in a 2-1 Geneva victory on Saturday at Medaille, but the Golden Tornadoes remain unbeaten on the season with a record of 4-0-1. Londino also posted a shut-out against Mt. Aloysius in an overtime victory earlier in the week. |

Jon Shope – Cross Country Jon Shope has been selected as the male student-athlete of the week. Shope broke the Geneva College freshman record in an 8K event on Saturday at Waynesburg. Finishing 16th overall, Shope turned in a time of 27:27 which was good enough for the fastest 8K time by a freshman runner in school history. Shope was Geneva’s second fastest runner behind only teammate Nick Edinger who finished with a mark of 27:21. Head coach Brian Yowler said not to write down the record breaking time too soon because it will surely be broken again a time or two from Shope later this season. |
