Adriane Blake & Brian Wilson

Geneva College Athletes of the week for the week of September 7-12, 2009:

Female:

Adriane Blake – Volleyball
Junior – Outisde Hitter
Glen Burnie, MD

Adriane Blake has been selected as the Female Student-Athlete of the Week. Blake made Geneva volleyball history this past week in leading the Golden Tornadoes to a 3-0 victory against Grove City in their only action. Blake threw down 16 kills in pacing Geneva past Grove City, but it was the 16th and final kill of the night that was so special. Blake became only the fourth player in Geneva history to record 1000 career kills and she has done so in just a little over two years in the program. Geneva’s win over Grove City was its third straight win overall and helped move the early season record to 4-1.

Male:

Brian Wilson – Football
Senior – Tight End/Defensive End
Atlanta, GA

Brian Wilson has been selected as the Male Student-Athlete of the Week. Wilson led Geneva to its second consecutive victory in a 32-17 win over Saint Vincent College. Playing on both sides of the ball, Wilson made three tackles including one tackle for a loss on defense. He was even more impressive with the ball in his hands as he pulled in four receptions for 49 yards and a pair of touchdowns. David Girardi found Wilson on a pair of 11-yard touchdowns in the victory as the Golden Tornadoes erased a 14-0 first quarter deficit on their way to scoring 32 of the game’s final 35 points. Wilson has now scored three touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season, which includes a 23 yard fumble recovery for a score against Frostburg State in week one.
