Head Track & Field Coach
(Men and Women's)

A new era began in 2009 with the hiring of Brian Yowler as Geneva’s new cross country coach for men and women and interim head track and field coach for men and women. In 2010, Yowler was officially installed as the head coach for both sports. He spent three years prior to becoming head coach as an assistant for both programs. With a passion to coach and participate in distance running, Yowler continues to make an enormous impact on the program and on every student-athlete that comes through Geneva’s doors in cross country and track. He continues to help build the program in terms of success and in terms of roster size. “We are certainly making strides to where we need to be,” says Yowler. “We still have much work to do but having the opportunity to work with these men and women on a daily basis has been a true blessing.”

Yowler is still very active in his own racing life as he continues to push himself through a total of nearly 20 marathons and counting. “Being active in my own life is essential to the coaching position,” says Yowler. “It gives me a true sense of understanding of exactly what I demand from our student-athletes. I believe it also gives me a level of respect in the eyes of our kids.”

Yowler graduated from IUP in 1994 before heading to the Penn State University College of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State in 2002. In addition to his coaching duties, Yowler continues to work as a professor in Geneva’s Biology department.
