Seminar Descriptions:
The Motivating Power of Reading for Pleasure
Many students associate reading with school work and, consequently, they become reluctant readers, avoiding reading whenever possible. This one credit course will consider the potentially powerful role reading for pleasure can have in motivating reluctant readers. The course will examine current literature related to pleasure reading. It will also give participants the opportunity to engage in some pleasure reading of their own. Outside readings will be required.
Language & Cultural Diversity
This online self-paced course is designed to prepare educators to work with the English Language Learners (ELLs) in a classroom or special programs, as well as communicate with the ESL teacher. This first course (in a series of two) includes a look at culture, immigration, language, and acculturation as it relates to the ELL and his/her family.
Instructional Strategies
This online self-paced course is designed to prepare educators to work with English Language Learners (ELLs) in a classroom or special programs, as well as communicate with the ESL teacher. This course has an emphasis on English Language Proficiency Levels, PA ESL standards, instructional materials and strategies.
