Experiencing Europe

europe.gifLynda Lambert intends to show a group of 20 Geneva students a side of Europe most tourists never see.

Lambert, an associate professor of fine arts and humanities, will lead a tour this summer through Germany, Austria, and Venice.

It is important for the students to be immersed in the culture, she said. “We’ll be living with families in the Austrian alps. We are not just tourists—we actually live in the village.”

Lambert has organized student tours of Europe since 1998 and this summer the emphasis will be on Germany, where the students will spend nine days. From there, the group will travel to Austria.

The city of Salzburg, Austria, began celebrations of Mozart’s 250th birthday in January and will continue the celebration throughout the year. Students will be able to experience some of the festivities during their stop in the city.

Students can use the trip to earn credit for humanities, writing, or English classes or as an independent study. The trip is also open to students and non-students who simply want the experience.

Joining Lambert on the trip are Dr. Mark Himmelein of Mount Union College and Susan Jewett of Cleveland Heights high school.

“This trip is the highlight of my year,” said Lambert. “It’s so exciting to be with students when they experience Europe for the first time.”
