Family Weekend 2011 – October 28-29, 2011

Come join us for a fun-filled weekend at Geneva College. You won't be able to do everything, but we hope there is something for everyone.

Friday Schedule   
2:30-6:30 p.m.  Hospitality and Registration Center  Student Center, 2nd floor 
3-4 p.m. Information Sessions Career Services, Skye Lounge, Student Center
Rob Rostoni, Career Development Director, will provide information about helping students in their calling, vocation and professional development including internships and other career services that are available to students and alumni. No charge, advance reservations requested.
Off campus programs Presidents' Dining Room
As the Director of the Crossroads Office, Ann Burkhead advises international students and those planning to study off campus. She will be speaking about the many off-campus study program opportunities for students. No charge, advance reservations requested.
4:45-6:15 p.m.  Family Dinner  Alexander Dining Hall 
  Advance reservations are required. $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Geneva students swipe their meal card. Reservations will be limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

7:30 p.m.  Broadway Revue  College Hill United Methodist Church
  Geneva College students perform a repertoire of Broadway songs. Hosted by the Geneva Women, an active alumni group, this popular event raises funds to support the college and its students. Tickets are required. Advance purchase: $6 for adults, $3 for children and students. At the door: $7 for adults, $4 for children and students.

7:30 p.m.  Minute to Win It Skye Lounge, Student Center 
  Student activities will host an evening of "Minute to Win It". There is no charge for this event. Sign-ups at the door.

8-10 p.m.  Hot Cider with the President The Brigadoon, Student Center 
  Come meet President Ken Smith and enjoy a complimentary cup of hot cider. The Riverview Café will also be open. No charge, advance reservations requested.

9:30 p.m.  Student & Sibling Movie – Cars 2 Metheny Fieldhouse 
  Students and siblings are invited to watch Cars 2 together. Bring your pillows and blankets. Pop and popcorn will be provided. No charge, advance reservations requested.
11 p.m.   Siblings – to the resident halls
Siblings of the same gender are invited to stay in the residence halls. Students may volunteer to “adopt-a-sibling” to accommodate everyone. It is suggested that the residence hall experience is best for children12 and up.
     
Saturday Schedule   
8 a.m.-1 p.m.  Hospitality and Registration Center   Student Center, 2nd floor 
8:15- 8:45 a.m.  Geneva families praying   Skye Lounge, Student Center 
  Join with Geneva families to pray for students and the college hosted by Keith Martel, Director of the Center for Faith and Practice.
9-9:45 a.m.   Chapel Service   Skye Lounge, Student Center
  Dr. Dean Smith and Dr. David Smith will lead families in a chapel service. Reservations requested.
Stained Glass Windows McCartney Library, Buhl Reference Room
Dr. Shirley Kilpatrick will give a lecture about the Pilgrim’s Progress windows on display inside of McCartney Library. Her recently released book, Pilgrims’s Progress Windows, will be available for purchase. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. An encore lecture will be given at 11:45 a.m.
Engineering at Geneva Northwood, Room 013
Dr. David Che will give a presentation about Geneva College’s outstanding engineering department. Geneva offers programs in chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, interdisciplinary and mechanical engineering. Attendees will receive an overview of the department including outcomes from participation in national competitions, jobs held by alumni and internship possibilities.
10 a.m.  Family Brunch   Alexander Dining Hall 
  Enjoy family mealtime together. Geneva’s 2009 Excellence in Teaching Award recipient Dr. Jeffrey Cole will be speaking. Advance reservations are required. $12/$6 per adult and Geneva student and children under 12. Geneva students may NOT swipe for this meal and must have a paid ticket to attend.

11:45 a.m.  Legacy Gathering   Alexander Dining Hall, President's Dining Room
  Alumni parents of current students and their children are invited to a tailgating reception with complimentary hot cider and sweet treats. Celebrate the joy of sharing an alma mater with your child. No charge, reservations requested.
11:45 a.m. Stained Glass Windows McCartney Library, Buhl Reference Room
Dr. Shirley Kilpatrick will give an encore lecture about the Pilgrim’s Progress windows on display inside of McCartney Library.
1 p.m.  Football game vs. Thiel Reeves Field 
  Come join us in watching the Geneva College Golden Tornado football team on their “Senior Day”. Tickets reserved in advance will be complimentary. Pick up tickets at the Hospitality Center or at the north entryway to Reeves Field immediately prior to the football game.
3-7 p.m.  Fall Fest Apartments Parking Lot
  Enjoy fun festivities in the parking lot of the Geneva College apartments. Family-friendly events will include pumpkin carving, yard games and build-a-scarecrow. A picnic is available for $5/person. Advance purchase meal tickets are required for non-Geneva students. Geneva students may attend this event for free.
4:30 p.m. Broadway Revue College Hill United Methodist Church
