Assistantships

Geneva’s Master of Arts in Higher Education is committed to contextualized learning. In other words we believe that classroom learning is enhanced by hands-on experience with college students or university programs. During your matriculation in our program, six hundred hours of work in the field is required. Students in our Institutes Program meet this requirement through their position at their home institution, and some of the students in our Cohort Program may be employed full or part time by an institution in our vicinity. For the remainder of the students in our Cohort Program we provide opportunities to meet the contextualized learning requirement through our Graduate Assistant Program. These assistantships occur in a variety of professional settings: residence life, campus ministry, coaching, assessment, learning support, teaching assistant, career services, student activities.

Graduate Assistantships are normally nine-month positions and are generally renewable for a second year. Graduate Assistants are paid a small monthly stipend and they receive a one-third reduction in program tuition while they are employed as a GA. Only accepted students are considered for GA positions. Application for these positions begins in February, and on-campus or phone interviews are conducted in March. Candidates commit to a GA position in April and arrive on campus in August to begin orientation to our program and to their particular GA position.

On-campus interviews for 2014-15 graduate assistantships are scheduled for March 6-7, 2014
