Colella and Arata perfect in Geneva Doubleheader sweep

Orlando, FL – Rare is it that a player enjoys a perfect day at the plate in an entire doubleheader. Maybe even more rare is when a pair of players pull it off for the same team on the same day. Geneva’s dynamic duo of Matt Colella and Rob Arata did just that on Friday as the Golden Tornadoes took a pair of games from Martin Luther College by the scores of 15-6 and 9-0. The sweep helped Geneva improve its overall record back to the .500 mark for the season at 5-5.

While Mike Lehman and Andy Hiskey were busy picking up their first pitching victories of the season, it was Geneva’s offense that stole the show on this day. Amazingly enough, Colella and Arata went a combined 16-16 at the plate, with each player collecting eight hits in the doubleheader sweep.

After enjoying an off day on Thursday, Geneva rebounded from a 2-1 loss to Atlanta Christian on Wednesday by having an offensive party at the expense of Martin Luther College, MN. The Golden Tornadoes started their Florida trip by dropping three of their first four games, but Friday’s offensive explosion could serve as the break out game for Geneva to help lead them through their final six games of the southern swing.

Lehman picked up the victory in game one on the mound, while Hiskey turned around in game two with a shut-out victory.

Geneva will meet Northwestern College in a doubleheader on Saturday before a four-game set against Calumet on Monday and Tuesday to close out the Florida trip.
