Victorious at Last, Geneva’s Tennis Team Gains First Win of the Season
Portsmouth, OH – Geneva’s tennis team had to travel almost to Kentucky on Saturday, but the trip was well worth it as the Golden Tornadoes brought back their first victory of the season. Geneva moved to 1-5 on the season, including a 1-2 record in the American Mideast Conference, with a 6-3 victory over Shawnee State.
Geneva took a commanding 4-2 lead after six singles matches. Jill Halama, Allison Krisza, Tess Roholt and Julia Buck all picked up singles victories. Geneva had to pick up just one victory in its three doubles matches and they accomplished more than that on Saturday afternoon.
Geneva won two of its three doubles matches for six points and its first win of the season. The team of Anna Buckwalter and Allison Krisza clinched the match with an 8-2 victory. Just for good measure, Julia Buck and Beth Sweatman also handed Shawnee St. an 8-2 setback.
The Golden Tornadoes will be right back on the court on Monday when they travel to Malone College to take on the Pioneers another AMC match.
